4th Grade Science Activity

Mrs. Lindley’s 4th graders were challenged with this experiment – Build a structure that is at least 10 centimeters tall and could withstand wind from a box fan.  We also reviewed vocabulary while implementing this experiment.

Hypothesis: The (pipe cleaners/wood sticks/yarn) will withstand wind.

Question: Will a structure made of (pipe cleaners/wood sticks/yarn) withstand wind?

Variable – material – pipe cleaners/wood sticks/yarn

 

After testing each structure, the students drew their design in their notebooks and the class completed a T-Chart with desirable and undesirable physical properties of structures in windy areas.  We related this lesson to structures in the path of Hurricane Dorian.
